A reminder that a balance is still unpaid after an earlier notice.
Reply by the date on the notice
What it means
The IRS has not received payment or a reply to an earlier bill, usually a CP14. The notice shows the current balance with penalties and interest added.
How long you have. Pay or respond by the due date on the notice.
What to do now
- Confirm the balance is correct.
- Pay, or set up a payment plan so the account stops moving toward collection.
- If you already paid, have proof ready and call the number on the notice.
Common mistakes
- Waiting for the next notice. Each one moves closer to a lien or levy.
